Continuing education in naturopathic medicine is a standard part of the profession. Only 14 states, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and the District of Columbia recognize and have licensing laws for naturopathic doctors. Those who practice in those states must receive continuing education annually. Aditionally, the scope of their practice is strictly determined by the laws if the state.

While the primary reason for continuing education in naturopathy is licensing requirements, it is also useful to those who want to advance their career and engage pursuits in standard medicine. Many schools offer programs related to naturopathic medicine, many of which can be taken online. These may only be practical for courses non-clinical in nature as clinical courses are hands on. Aditionally, several naturopathic organizations offer seminars and classes which may count as continuing education.
