Accreditation of naturopathic schools and programs, as with any health-oriented education, is of vital importance. A Naturopathic Doctor (ND) must be licensed just as Medical Doctors (MD) before they may practice. Accreditation also gives students confidence in the education they are receiving; that is has been reviewed and accepted by Naturopathic Doctors and is valuable to their employment in Naturopathy.
The Council on Naturopathic Medical Education (CNME) accredits naturopathic programs that seek accreditation and that meet or exceed standards established by the CNME. It is the naturopathic accrediting organization acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education; furthermore, graduates of CNME accredited programs may apply for naturopathic licensing examinations and are usually eligible for state licensing.
