Choosing a Naturopathic School

Naturopathic

Within the realm of naturopathic medicine exist numerous fields of study, such as acupuncture, oriental or herbal medicine, homeopathy, and ayurveda, just to name a few. One can choose to specialize in one particular subject, or study to be a naturopathic doctor (ND), which often encompasses many genres of alternative medicine.

Since most practitioners are required to be licensed, one must ensure his or her school is at least regionally accredited, as licensure is not possible without an education from an accredited institution. Those schools that are nationally accredited are eligible to offer their students federal financial aid, which is often an important factor for students.

Reputable naturopathic schools will provide students a significant amount of hands-on training, clinical observation, and clinical internship opportunities. A school should also offer small class sizes, high student/faculty ratios, a progressive curriculum, experienced and engaging instructors, and a substantial library. However, the best way to truly gauge the quality of a school is to visit the campus and facilities and decide if it feels worthy of a time-consuming and expensive personal commitment.
